RAMSI Special Coordinator pays courtesy call on the Prime Minister

The newly appointed Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands Special Coordinator, Ms Justine Braithwaite paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister, Hon. Gordon Darcy Lilo at the Office of the Prime Minister in Honiara on 27 November. The Prime Minister and Ms Braithwaite discussed the excellent partnership that RAMSI and Solomon Islands Government have shared over the past decade, and discussed their mutual priorities for the mission for the next two years.

These included implementation of an extensive program of capacity development and assistance for the Royal Solomon Islands Police; support for provision of security around Solomon Islands’ national elections in 2014; preparatory work for the limited reintroduction of firearms to the RSIPF; and initiatives on the prevention of family violence. The Prime Minister, Mr Lilo congratulated Ms Braithwaite on her appointment as the first female Special Coordinator, and confirmed that his Government looked forward to working closely with RAMSI in its effort to strengthen the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force.
