RAMSI Special Coordinator Nicholas Coppel and senior RAMSI officials have briefed Australia’s Governor-General, Her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce, on the work of the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands.
The briefing described the origins, objectives and structure of RAMSI, its close partnership with the people and Government of Solomon Islands, as well as the ongoing process of RAMSI’s transition.
“The Governor General was particularly interested in the level of public confidence in Solomon Islands institutions as RAMSI’s transition was implemented. She also enquired about recruitment, training, levels of female participation and the leadership capacity of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force,” Mr Coppel said.
Later, the Governor-General met police, civilians and soldiers serving in the 15 member-country mission.
The briefing, which took place at RAMSI Headquarters on 3 April 2012, was part of the Governor-General’s visit to Solomon Islands, concluding her tour of eight neighbouring Pacific countries.
