NZ troops farewell RAMSI and Solomon Islands

The last New Zealand platoon likely to deploy to RAMSI’s military contingent farewells Solomon Islands with a traditional haka, seen here challenging RAMSI’s military Commander, Lieutenant-Colonel Brenton Gasteen, shortly before they flew out of Honiara’s International Airport this morning.

The departure brings to a close almost a decade of deployment by the New Zealand Defence Force to the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands.

Some NZ military personnel will continue to serve RAMSI’s military headquarters staff until June 30 next year when the rest of the mission’s military contingent is expected to withdraw. RAMSI’s Participating Police Force will stay in Solomon Islands for at least four more years.
