The small island nation of Tuvalu has been an important contributor to RAMSI since December 2004. Officers from Tuvalu Police Force provide support and advice to their colleagues in the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force. With the contribution of two members from this police force, it is an strong commitment from the fourth-smallest country in the world.
Matatia is one of two international representatives from Tuvalu, the fourth-smallest country in the world, and is a proud contributor to RAMSI as a Pacific Islander.
Matatia Makaili, from Funafuti in Tuvalu, spent a year working as a RAMSI Participating Police Force Adviser in 2009 and 2010.
“We have to assist and help our brothers and sisters from our neighbour, Solomon Islands”, Matatia said of his motivation for joining RAMSI.
During his stay in Solomon Islands, Matatia worked in Close Personal Protection, including looking after Solomon Islands’ former Prime Minister, Dr Derek Sikua, which Matatia described as a privilege. Matatia helped provide protection to Dr Sikua in Honiara, and in his local constituency in North East Guadalcanal.
