RAMSI’s Special Coordinator, James Batley, today congratulated the people and government of Nauru on the occasion of the country’s National Day. “Nauru is making a valuable contribution to RAMSI through its police officers serving in the Participating Police Force. “As a regional exercise, it is very encouraging that Solomon Islands’ neighbours, like Nauru, remain committed and continue to send personnel to serve with RAMSI.” “The people and government of Nauru should feel proud of the positive contributions their police officers continue to make to RAMSI’s work.” Mr Batley added that RAMSI had been honoured to welcome the President of Nauru, His Excellency Mr Ludwig Scotty, to its headquarters during the President’s visit to Solomon Islands in October last year. That visit had given the President a good opportunity to witness at first hand the sort of work RAMSI personnel are engaged in. Mr Batley said RAMSI had gained from the mix of cultural backgrounds and experience the personnel from Nauru brought with them. He said he was confident that at the end of their time in Solomon Islands, Nauru’s contingent members returned home having gained valuable experience. |
